The longer you train, the more you realize, there are black belts and then there are black belts and in that smaller subset, there reside legendary competitors like Rafael Lovato Jr. Professor Lovato Jr. is the most decorated American Jiu Jitsu practitioner in history. Equal to his competitive prowess is his ability to mentor and coach his students to great successes. Names like Justin Rader, James Puopolo, and Jared Dopp are only a few of Lovato’s army of current and future world champions.
And as you continue to train, hopefully you will have opportunities to attend seminars with teachers such as Rafael Lovato. The Sub and Surf company has partnered with Professor Lovato and between March 21st and 28th this year you can spend a week in beautiful Costa Rica training with one of BJJ’s most decorated instructors.
Jiu Jitsu Times had an opportunity to speak to Professor Lovato about this year’s camp.
Jiu Jitsu Times: “Professor Lovato, what can students expect this year in Costa Rica?”
Rafael Lovato: “Anyone who comes out and joins my Costa Rica camp can expect the trip of a lifetime! We will be working on all of my strongest techniques with each session building on the previous one.”
Jiu Jitsu Times: “What do you hope students will take home to their respective BJJ schools?”
Rafael Lovato: “By the end of the week you will have a deep understanding of what I feel are some of the biggest concepts in Jiu-Jitsu.”
Jiu Jitsu Times: “What else can visitors and students expect during this week in Costa Rica?”
Rafael Lovato: “Besides for the awesome training everyday you can experience the culture, great food, surfing, zip lining, and other outdoor activities in beautiful Costa Rica. It is one of the highlights of the year for me!”
