Olympic Gold Medalist Wrestler Gable Steveson Signs With The WWE

After an incredible comeback that saw him win 2020 Olympic gold earlier this year, wrestler Gable Steveson has signed with the WWE.

The news was first reported by ESPN.

Steveson has reportedly signed a NIL (name, image, likeness) contract with the organization, which will allow him to continue his NCAA career at the University of Minnesota, where he is the reigning heavyweight Division I national champion. While he attends his senior year of college, the WWE will provide him with the necessary resources to learn what he needs to before his career with the promotion commences following his graduation in May.

After Steveson’s big gold medal win, which took place within the very last second of his finals match, there was discussion about him potentially going to the UFC. However, ESPN reports that the UFC wanted the wrestler to gain more experience in the local MMA scene before getting a shot at a contract through Dana White’s Contender Series.

With the contract signed, Steveson joins names like Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar in making the transition from an elite wrestling career into a WWE career. Whether he’ll eventually make the move to MMA or compete in the 2024 Olympics remains to be seen, but for now, he’s got a promising career as a professional wrestler to look forward to after graduation.
