Nicholas Meregali’s lined up his next superfight — and the opponent is none other than Cyborg Abreu of Fight Sports, per an announcement published to Meregali’s official social media channels. Meregali and Abreu are scheduled to face at at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 4, which will be streamed live at the end of the month on Thursday, June 29.
“After a long time without fighting No Gi, here we go again,” wrote Meregali in an Instagram caption. “My last tournament was ADCC in September 2022, an event I competed in with only 6 months of No Gi training in my entire career and even so I was 2nd in the Open Class and 3rd in the -99kg. I hated the result, it wasn’t the way I wanted to play, winning is easy and I showed that by getting 2 medals with a few months of training, but domination, submissions, and display technical skills, that’s what I want.
“After the ADCC I decided for an off-season to build the skills I needed, I worked insanely hard and here we are, having my first No Gi fight after a long period of preparation. I have no idea how the fight will go, Gi and No Gi are two different sports and that’s why I’m two different fighters dealing with these situations. If the fight was in a Gi, it would be a Payday, but it’s without the Gi […] so it’s going to be war. I’m curious to see the level I’ll perform at and also happy to have an such tough opponent like Cyborg for this fight, an athlete with extensive experience in the No Gi world and many expressive titles in this sport. Too happy for this fight.”
For his part, Abreu seems ready to take on Meregali, stating in his own social media announcement, “Many years on the battlefield and always ready to challenge myself agaist the best in the game. [Nicholas Meregali] has [been] having many dominant performances and I’m ready to take on the challenge.”
Stream this event and others live, exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.
