Strikeforce is coming up this Friday in Phoenix, Arizona, and features a female MMA grand prix. To adhere to the rules of the Arizona State Athletic Commission, the competition format has been modified.
The first stage of the GP will be held in two three-minute rounds, no longer three rounds. The final will be defined in three three-minute rounds. Obviously, a draw will not do in the first stage, even if the fighters win a round apiece. In this case, the judges will have to decide who deserves to carry on in the dispute.
The tournament winner will earn a shot at the organization’s welterweight title now held by Sarah Kaufman. The participants, who you can see in the photos below, are Carina Damm, Meisha Tate, Hitomi Akano and Maiju Kujala.
Other news from the promotion is that there’s a great likelihood Fedor Emelianenko will renew his contract. Fedor may sign for another six fights with the event, again keeping him away from the competing UFC promotion.
