Samuel Braga is a three-time world champion of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The 36-year-old was born in Belo Horizonte, the capital of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. While his BJJ skills have enabled him to build the academy he currently runs in Tennessee, though, that’s not the whole story.
“I studied jewelry design in Minas Gerais and took some technician jeweler courses,” he says. “I worked for myself in Brazil for two years before becoming a professional jiu-jitsu athlete in 2004.”
Armed with this other set of skills, the black-belt under Vinícius Draculino founded NXS Design in 2017. The budding business, which sponsors Graciemag’s English-language Instagram page, has been wowing BJJ fans on that social network for some time now with its truly unique bracelet designs.
Every NXS product is handmade and designed by Braga himself. There’s a line of jewelry to represent one’s rank in BJJ, as well as designs with different themes and bracelets that can be engraved with a person’s name. Fighters who happen to be chess fans as well might find themselves doubly inclined to make a purchase.
