Matheus Zimmermann teaches two finishes from the butterfly guard

Matheus teaching a lesson in locks starting from the hook guard.

Matheus Zimmermann, the leader of Top Brother Sul in Pelotas, likes changing up his attacks with technical, unorthodox options to surprise his opponents, and today’s lesson couldn’t be any different.

This time we start from the butterfly guard, a known position for the hook sweep which, with his tip, can also serve up a quick finish.

Matheus shows how to make the butterfly guard grips, adding a grip to the opponent’s sleeve, to be able to spin with torsion on the shoulder, similar to the omoplata. For blue-belts and higher, another option is a wrist fold on the arm that is trapped after the spin.
