Osvaldo Paquetá felt bad during the April 30 broadcast of UFC 129. After a few days in hospital the black belt underwent heart bypass surgery. Some months later, Paquetá is back in full swing and at a luncheon this Tuesday some of his close friends held a toast in honor of the master’s recovery.
“I was fortunate in that 80% of the people who took care of me, from the doctors to the nurses, knew me from Jiu-Jitsu. All of them came to talk to me about fighting!” remarks Paquetá, who has been seen wandering the streets of Copacabana, a neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro he has frequented since the days of his great friend Carlson Gracie.
His return to fighting events should happen July 20 at the Clube da Luta show. Paquetá wants to watch Murilo Bustamante and company up close. Indeed, he’s already back on top of everything that’s been happening in the main national and international events.
For those who don’t know who he is, Osvaldo Paquetá is one of the most beloved figures in Brazil’s gentle art and MMA scene. In the early days of competition Jiu-Jitsu the master and his film camera were fixtures, capturing historic images that are now part of one of the most valuable archives of the style.
GRACIEMAG.com too joins the celebrations for his recovery!
