Marcelo Garcia Closes Gym Due To Corona Virus Concerns

NEW YORK CITY- Multiple time ADCC champ Marcelo Garcia announced on Instagram this afternoon that his academy would be closed starting tomorrow for a minimum of two weeks. This was done in response to the increase in reported COVID-19 cases in the northeast.

We will be closed starting tomorrow 03/13 . We believe that’s the right thing to do and it’s our part on the fight against this Virus . Though the majority of our students are healthy and not in the high risk , it’s everyone’s responsibility to protect the ones that are most likely to suffer from this . I’m doing my part , hope you all do yours , stay safe.” The post read.

“I believe we are being proactive,” Garcia said in the video. Though the close is set for two weeks, Garcia has said it will be extended should the situation require it.

Citing his concern for students, Garcia also expressed worry for his newborn daughter. As a premature birth, Garcia cannot risk jeopardizing her already compromised immune system.

Following Legion BJJ closing down, this marks the second major BJJ academy to be affected by the virus. To all our readers, please remember to keep calm and monitor your health in and out of the gym.

The Jiu-Jitsu Times will follow the situation as it develops.
