We will finally be seeing jiu-jitsu star Mackenzie Dern back in the Octagon next weekend as she faces off against Hannah Cifers. The two will battle it out in a strawweight fight on the UFC on ESPN 9 card, set to take place on May 30.
The fight has been a long time coming for Dern. She was originally scheduled to fight Ariane Carnelossi in April, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented Carnelossi from being able to make it to the fight. Cifers then replaced Carnelossi, but then, the entire event was canceled due to the outbreak. The fight was then tentatively rescheduled for May 23, but was pushed back another week.
Dern is 7-1 in her professional MMA career, with her only loss coming from last October against Amanda Ribas. Cifers is 10-4, winning two out of her last three fights.
The event is planned to be hosted at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, but this is still pending approval from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
