The strawweight fight between Randa Markos and decorated BJJ star Mackenzie Dern was a heavily ground-based battle that saw Dern pick up yet another win in the Octagon.
After a quick flurry of strikes from both fighters, Dern threw a kick, slipped, and fell to the ground, capitalizing on the position to throw up an omoplata that turned into a triangle attempt. Dern attempted to manipulate Markos’ arm to get the submission, but Markos was able to defend initially, throwing in a few punches in the process. Dern was able to come up on top and quickly transition to top half-guard and then mount. Dern secured an arm and fell back with a tight armbar, but Markos kept one of Dern’s legs trapped to prevent her from finishing it. Dern threw in a few punches to the body and face and was able to get her foot free, at which point she was able to finish the submission and win the fight.
The victory brings Dern’s record to 9-1, with six of her victories coming by way of submission.
SIMPLY UNSTOPPABLE.
