Khabib Nurmagomedov, former UFC lightweight champion, seems to be ready to leave the world of mixed martial arts (MMA) behind him – for good; including the coaching career.
Nurmagomedov initially announced his retirement from fighting in MMA after he successfully defended his lightweight title at UFC 254; due to the passing of his father and to the promise he made to his mother.
And now, after multiple reports from various Russian news outlets, Nurmagomedov took it to Instagram on Saturday (January 7) and shared a post from Za Khabiba – an Instagram page that posts about Khabib – which had the following caption (translated from Russian):
Habib dedicated almost 30 years to the sport. Now it’s time for family.
“Khabib is leaving the MMA industry. It’s about coaching and everything else related to MMA. The reason is Khabib’s desire to devote more time to his family”.

And in a separate post, Khabib said that he hopes that his decision is for the best:
Concluding the year. The year certainly turned out to be a very busy and successful.
Take care of yourself brothers. I hope my decision is only for the best, a big hug to you all.
Thank you, you were a big reason for my success in sports.
