Khabib Nurmagomedov Doesn’t Like Lifting Weights, Reveals His 1 Rep Max

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself – what would it be like to spar and grapple with Khabib Nurmagomedov? Are his pressure game and his humble attitude as great as they are said to be?

Well, former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has the chance to train with Khabib first-hand.

Cormier certainly knows.

In the past, Cormier has claimed that Khabib was the strongest person he has ever felt and despite himself being a former heavyweight champion.

“Look at Dustin Poirier, how good he looked against Dan Hooker, and look at what Khabib did to him. Dustin went between rounds and said, ‘I can’t get him off me.’ This is Dustin Poirier who is one of the bigger lightweights in the entire world.

“He’s just a beast man. You felt it, I felt it — when I grab a guy that fights at 155 and I go, ‘man, he feels strong,’ it’s crazy. That should not happen. He should not feel strong to me whenever I grab him, but he is.”

Teammate Luke Rockhold describes Khabib’s strength:

“He is so strong. When he grabs a hold of you in the bodylock….”

So what makes Khabib Nurmagomedov so strong? It certainly doesn’t come from lifting weights…

Khabib Nurmagomedov recently revealed in an interview that he wasn’t a fan of weightlifting.

Nurmagomedov only lifts weights 3 days a week for strength and conditioning, but not so much that he gets overworked:

“I have never lifted 160 kg. I have lifted 120 kg at maximum. I don’t like this kind of weightlifting. I do it to look like an athlete.” Khabib said.

“I do classic exercises. Push-ups, deadlifts, jumps, everything that is needed for an athlete. And I do all these exercises on top of the sports to look like one.”
