UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman didn’t have an easy ride to the top of his MMA career.
In a recent interview with Steve Harvey on Steve on Watch, the Usman family shared their longtime struggle of coping with Kamaru’s father, Muhammed Nasiru Usman, being incarcerated for over a decade. Kamaru told Harvey that his father would watch his fights from prison, and Kamaru made the decision to only take fights that his father could watch — in other words, no PPV events.
Muhammed Usman is now out of prison and finally able to attend his son’s fights, and in a heartwarming moment, Kamaru put his championship belt around his father’s waist at his most recent title defense.
In an incredible gesture on Steve on Watch, though, Kamaru took things up a notch. At the end of the segment, his mother, Porsha, was instructed to reach under her chair. Wrapped up in a small box was a key — more specifically, the key to Kamaru’s parents’ new home. As it turned out, he and his siblings teamed up to buy his parents their dream house, and you can tell by their reaction just how much it means to them.
