Jungle Fight 43 upholds good-Jiu-Jitsu tradition in São Paulo

Last Saturday in São Paulo, Wallid Ismail held the 43rd installment of his Jungle Fight event. In the cage set up in the Pelezão Gymnasium in the Lapa neighborhood, seven fights dazzled the audience, in particular the Middleweight GP fights, where now-former champ Kleber Orgulho ran into stormy seas in facing Itamar Rosa.

Itamar, until then an almost-famous fighter, proved all he needed was just a tiny opportunity to shine. He feel behind in the first round, recovered, and came back to knock Orgulho down and nearly seal the deal with a rear-naked choke. Once the fight was over, the judges called it a split decision win for Itamar. Check out the ace’s Jiu-Jitsu in the third and final round.

In the other GP bracket, Pedro Rosa pulled some slick Jiu-Jitsu of his own out of his hat. After going through a rough time with Edvaldo Gameth, Rosa found an opening and snagged his opponent’s leg. Now the two winners with the last name Rosa will face off in the under-84 kg GP semifinal, in a rematch of a 2011 encounter where Itamar won by knockout.

In the rest of the card, rising talent Ary Santos of Nova União needed just over a minute to knock out Robert Pato with a flying knee. Now Sylvio Behring’s American student Sean Cubby used a knee of his own to knock down Carlos Bazan before finishing up on the ground. Both bouts were part of the under-70 kg, lightweight GP.
