ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Reigning UFC light heavyweight champion and eternal moron Jon “Bones” Jones was arrested Thursday on charges of driving under the influence, possession of an open container, and negligent discharge of a firearm.
According to a report from KOAT Action News, Police responded to sounds of gunfire reported on 3rd Street and Central Avenue just after 1 a.m. Jones was found in his car with the engine running. He claimed to have no knowledge of the gunshots, officers said.
Seeing signs of intoxication, officers questioned Jones about his intentions to drive and he agreed to a breathalyzer test. He proceeded to test twice above the legal limit.
Following his arrest, Police found a black handgun and a half empty bottle of mezcal in his car.
Jones has been charged with aggravated DWI, negligent use of a firearm and possession of an open container.
This marks the latest in a long string of police run ins by Jones, the second most recent being an accusation of assault by a waitress in 2019. Despite being one of the most talented people to ever fight in the cage, Jone’s inability to keep out of legal trouble has soured an otherwise stellar record.
UPDATE: ESPN released a statement via Instagram saying that they are aware of the situation and are gathering more information.
