Joao Assis defeated Mikey Perez to earn the heavyweight no-gi title at Fight to Win Pro 24.
Assis spend much of the match working on passing Perez’s guard. Multiple times during the match, Perez pushed Assis away with his foot in what seemed to barely toe the line between a push and a kick, causing the audience to audibly gasp. When time ran out, the judges gave Assis the victory via unanimous decision.
Perez agreed to take the fight at the last minute when Jeff Monson, Assis’ original opponent, had to drop out on short notice.
