While in Brazil the Shooto MMA promotion has been drawing attention for pitting officers from Rio de Janeiro’s elite police force against professional fighters, in New York the fights are off the hook as well—and with plenty tradition behind them.
For 30 years now, New Yorkers have been watching the annual “Battle of the Badge”, an event where policemen (in blue gloves) and firemen (in red gloves) partake in bouts of boxing to determine which corporation is the region’s toughest.
The commemorative 2012 event will take place November 9at Madison Square Garden. Police or firefighters, whose side are you on?
Now if it would just catch on in MMA…
