Who needs to provide a background check?
People who are applying for a Black Belt Certificate and live in the United States will need to provide a background check. Instructors and professors who are applying for academy registration with USBJJF will also need to provide a Jiu-Jitsu Blackbelt BACKGROUND CHECK.
Why Is A Background Check Required By IBJJF/USBJJF?
The background check is one of the actions that has been taken in order to increase the safety of the BJJ practitioners in tournaments and academies.
How Can I Request A Background Check?
You can apply to get a background check online through the SSCI website. You will need to provide your address, social security number, date of birth, full name or a form of a form of identification.
Background Check Fees
You will have to pay a $18.50 fee for the background check. The fee will be paid to SSCI directly. This company will run the background check and give the results. It may take up to five days to process a background check.
Disqualifications Based On The Background Check
A person will be disqualified from serving as a professor, volunteer or certified black belt based on the following:
Sex Offenses- All people who have committed a sexual offense, regardless of the amount of time that has passed since the offense occurred. This includes things such as child molestation, rape, sodomy, indecent exposure, prostitution.
Felony Violence– All types of felony violence will disqualify a person. This includes kidnapping, robbery, murder, manslaughter and aggravated burglary.
Felony Offenses Other Than Violence Or Sex That Occurred Within The Past 10 Years-This includes child endangerment, theft, drug charges and embezzlement. People who have pending court cases will also be disqualified. If the disposition of the pending case does not meet the aforementioned criteria, a person will be reinstated and cleared.
