Jiu-Jitsu is a sport of lineage and tradition. Skills and knowledge have been passed down from teacher to student for many generations. Without all of the amazing professors, instructors, teachers, and coaches of this art, it would no longer exist. My instructor in particular has effected my life in so many different ways and I have him to thank for everything.

Teaching me the art of Jiu-Jitsu has changed me. It brought some much needed positivity to my life as well as allowing me to develop a passion that I now can’t live without. Without my instructor that wouldn’t have ever happened. He took the chance on a young girl, with no prior experience in any grappling or martial art, and decided to teach her. Little did he know that would change my life.

Dragging your family around the country to watch and coach someone that is competing in a Jiu-Jitsu tournament isn’t easy or cheap. Every time I bring up a new tournament I want to go compete at my coach is always 100% supportive. He loads up his family and follows me around. He has never missed one of my matches and that is something I am very grateful for.

Besides learning technique and actual Jiu-Jitsu you have taught me so many skills. You have taught me self confidence how to fully believe in myself. That is a skill that can be used on and off the mat. You’ve showed me that I can take obstacles I never thought I would pass and smash them. You showed me that I can do so much more than I ever thought I would be able to.

My parents have always supported my dreams, but having a coach finally believe in you is something not everyone gets to experience. Having him help me try to accomplish my dreams is something I will never take for granted.

So instructor, teacher, coach or whatever else we may call you, thank you for everything. From the time spent at the gym, tournaments, watching fights, or squeezing in an extra roll, thank you for supporting me and my dreams. I appreciate all of it more than you can imagine!
