All eight competitor slots for the 2019 IBJJF Heavyweight GP have been filled, and it’s clear that the IBJJF is truly living by the “go big or go home” motto for this event.
Earlier today, the final participant in the bracket was announced: Joao Gabriel Rocha. Rocha, who recently revealed that his cancer is finally cured five years after his initial diagnosis, joins Patrick Gaudio, F2W 104 and Combat Jiu-Jitsu headliner (and winner) Yuri Simoes, and Mahamed Aly in the second round of participants announced by the IBJJF.
The IBJJF kicked off the Heavyweight GP hype by announcing that both Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida and Gordon Ryan would be competing in the event. Soon afterward, Leandro Lo and Lucas Barbosa were added to the card, sending the message that this event was likely to be one of the most stacked in recent memory.
The winner of the event will go home with an extra $40,000 in their pocket, and the runner-up will received $10,000. The competition will take place on August 24 at the Evexia Fit Fest in Las Vegas.
