Herbert Burns on moving to Florida, seeking redemption in the cage

Burns will prepare for his next fight at Florida’s Combat Club. Sondmarketing.

One Championship featherweight Herbert Burns is moving. He has packed and set off for Florida, where he will start training at Combat Club alongside his brother, UFC fighter Gilbert Durinho. There, Herbert will have training partners like Robbie Lawler, Rashad Evans, Kamaru Usman and Michael Johnson.

“The human material here is very plentiful,” he told Graciemag recently. “The quality of the coaches is excellent. Henri Hooft is the main coach and takes care of the team’s standup, but we have the help of Sean Soriano, a former UFC fighter. For the wrestling side of things, there is Greg Jones — a three-time NCAA champion. And there is my brother, Gilbert Durinho, teaching the BJJ part. The team is not big, but it has a more open mentality. Anyone can come here and train, exchange experiences. I am very happy with this move.”

Herbert moved to Florida thinking about his next bout at One Championship. His last fight under the organization was in February — the first loss in his career. “I hope to fight again in June or July,” he said. “That is my goal. I hope to set the fight soon to ramp up my training and seek redemption in the event.”

While his next MMA appointment is still up in the air, Herbert says he plans to stay active in BJJ, so chances are we’ll get to see him make an appearance on the weekend of May 13 at the Miami Open, at the Florida International University Arena.
