Henry Cejudo Releases Statement Following Removal Of Bantamweight Championship Title

In case you missed it, Olympic gold medalist and double UFC champion Henry Cejudo announced his retirement from MMA following his TKO defeat of Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. Although his declaration in the post-fight interview (and the subsequent press conference) seemed sincere, fans still had doubts that the notorious trash-talker was actually leaving the competitive MMA world. Now, though, it appears that Cejudo really may be done with the UFC for good.

Cejudo, who once held both the flyweight and bantamweight titles simultaneously for the promotion, was removed from the official UFC bantamweight rankings yesterday, indicating that his retirement announcement was for real and his reign as the bantamweight champion was over.

Now, Cejudo has released a statement for the first time since his departure was made official:

“Thank you for the awesome experiences uncle @danawhite I will forever be grateful. Thank you for taking a chance on the sport that people thought would never make it. To all my coaches and fans it been a wonderful ride. Triple C is out #retiredontop

Although Cejudo’s manager seems to think that “Triple C” will be back in action eventually, at least for now, it looks like this is goodbye for Henry Cejudo.
