It was announced yesterday that UFC welterweight fighter Hector Lombard pulls out of Five Grappling tournament due to injury. The tournament was set for August 2. Although the injury appears to be a minor one, but significant enough to sit Lombard out for the event, at which he was to be one of the main draws. The tournament is paying a prize purse of $17,500 for the 8-person elimination bouts.
The injury apparently has not hampered future events for Lombard, who has announced a South Africa tour to begin next week. After his January 3 fight against Josh Burkman at UFC 182, Lombard was caught for using performance-enhancing drugs at the post-fight tests, for which he was fined $70,490 and suspended from the UFC for a year.
Earlier this year, the Cuban fighter suffered another setback when he was submitted in under two minutes while competing in an Atlanta Brazilian jujitsu championship tournament.
