A motorcycle accident has left a Gracie Barra student in the hospital and paralyzed from the waist down, and the academy is rallying the jiu-jitsu community to try to get him the support he needs as he recovers.
According to the GoFundMe set up to pay for his medical bills, According to Gracie Barra Northridge, Roberto Chavez is one of their newer students. Days ago, Chavez was in a motorcycle accident, the details of which are largely unknown due to his suffering memory loss and having no recollection of the crash. COVID-19 restrictions have prevented him from having visitors in the hospital, leaving him and the doctors to fight this battle on their own.
Edgar Madrigal, who set up the GoFundMe, said of Chavez, “Roberto was one of our newer students who quickly fell in love with with the sport and found a huge passion in training every day. Now, he is paralyzed from his waist below and doesn’t know if he’ll be able to step on the mats again.”
Gracie Barra Northridge is asking anyone who can spare a few dollars to please contribute to the fundraiser to help Chavez pay for his medical bills. Romulo Barral himself has donated $1,000 to the fund, and the current goal is set at $50,000.
