An unfortunate shakeup in one of the biggest matches of the next Who’s Number One event on FloGrappling has a silver lining as Gordon Ryan has stepped in to replace his younger brother Nicky Ryan against Roberto Jimenez.
FloGrappling shared the news yesterday that Nicky suffered an injury and would be unable to compete at the February 26 event. Thankfully, though, Jimenez will still have a match — Gordon took Nicky’s spot and will now be going head-to-head against the young black belt.
The older Ryan brother has been lamenting his lack of action recently, saying that other grapplers simply refused to go up against him. He’s currently on a lengthy winning streak, and he carries an undefeated record in his two appearances at WNO.
In an interview shared on FloGrappling, Gordon expressed his respect for Jimenez and his excitement for the match, acknowledging his opponent’s desire to hunt for submissions. While Gordon is going to be the favorite in this match even against the formidable young star, don’t underestimate Jimenez. He’s no stranger to upsets, having made his black belt debut by defeating Keenan Cornelius at the first installment of WNO.
WNO will take place on Friday, February 26 and can be streamed live on FloGrappling.
