The match between Felipe Pena and Nicky Rodriguez stirred a lot of controversy – on whether or not Rodriguez has been greasing.
Gordon Ryan, who spoke about the issue before, now reflected back on it again – considering that Felipe Pena also voiced his doubts on Rodriguez’s greasing:
When I said Nicky Fraud [i.e. Rodriguez] was greased, you all said I was making excuses. But when you look at the facts, it becomes clear.
Yuri complained multiple times about him greasing, Felipe complained multiple times about him greasing.
I wore a long sleeve rash guard specifically only for the match against him at ADCC because I was worried about greasing.
Ryan than commented on those who talk about him not complaining about steroid use in the sport, but just greasing.
He defended the use of steroids in professional grappling, considering that he believes it helps athletes win:
Steroids are legal, per the rules, so if you take them – not only are you well within legal parameters, but you’re also helping yourself win as a pro athlete, which as a pro athlete isn’t that your goal?
Well I guess maybe not for a team who built their entire brand on losing, but for any normal person that should be the objective.
Greasing, on the other hand, is against the rules in tournaments:
Greasing however is illegal, per the rules, in every competition.
And if you use it, not only are you a cheater fu**, but you also go against everything the sport stands for: which is CONTROL that leads to submission.
