Gordon Ryan has been nothing short of dominant in competition over the past few years. That was certainly the case when he squared off with Roberto Jimenez at Who’s Number One in February. Minutes before the match, Ryan posted to Instagram that he would finish Jimenez with a mounted armbar, and he did just that. Now, Ryan has shared the technical details of that submission.
As Ryan explains above, there are two key details to making this armbar work. First, he must move from regular mount to S-mount one knee at a time to prevent Jimenez from escaping during the transition. Second, to deal with Jimenez locking his hands to defend the submission, Ryan isolates the defending arm entirely.
The result is a methodical, control-based, picture-perfect submission.
Since the match with Jimenez, Gordon Ryan has competed at another Who’s Number One, defeating Vagner Rocha by submission. Ryan is not currently booked in another match.
