It has been a few years since mixed martial arts fans saw former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre in the octagon. Rumors of a comeback have been swirling for months now, especially if you have been following the MMA media. Trainer: ‘I think Georges is going to make a splash soon’, is a statement that longtime GSP trainer Firas Zahabi said during an interview with Brett Okamoto on ESPN. Georges St. Pierre last fought against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167, a fight that saw GSP hold onto his coveted championship via a controversial decision.
GSP had decided to leave the MMA world shortly after this fight, with one of his main reasons being the rampant drug usage that some of the fighters partook in. However, since St. Pierre left the MMA world in 2013, the UFC has undergone a huge transition in drug testing to become the strictest sport in the world when it comes to testing. With the UFC approaching a major milestone this July with UFC 200, it would be a truly interesting scenario of the former UFC Welterweight Champion would somehow find himself stepping back into the coveted octagon to compete against the elite once again.
