This weekend marked a milestone for Gracie Barra, as they held their Compnet 13 Jiu-Jitsu tournament at Northwood High School in Irvine, California. Over 540 kids and adults from Southern California alone were at the event for the friendly yet competitive event, having a great time in the process.
On hand coaching their many students on the mats were GB black belt greats like Marcio Feitosa, Flavio Almeida, Kayron Gracie, Romulo Barral, and Philipe Della Monica, to name a very few.
Nelson Monteiro, a fifth-degree black belt under Master Carlos Jr. says organizing these high-level events are a lot of work, but it doesn’t feel like it when there is so much love involved. “This is the kind of tournament where you can have fun competing, you can bring your kids, or watch your friends compete,” he says, “It’s always a win-win situation. Win or lose, you get a fair and honest fight, you eat good acai, and have some friendly fun.”
Our very own Luca Atalla was on hand to capture the magic of GB Compnet 13. Here are his pictures from the day….
