The best action on the mats deserves the best support on the sidelines. That’s why Five Grappling is proud to announce the addition of Tony “The Voice” Torres as the official announcer for its Five Super League – The Lightweights event scheduled July 15, at the Lincoln High School, in San Diego, California.
President of Five Grappling, Shawn Fowler reveals the reasons that made him decide to add Torres to the team: “Tony is the veteran voice of the BJJ Community. His passion and energy to ignite a crowd is well recognized in literally 15 years of announcing various BJJ events. Tony and I have been friends for about 15 years now and we have a Chemistry that is unexplainable. We have just never been able to collaborate on any projects until this year at ADCC. It was then that we realized, it was time to get Tony back in the BJJ platform after being away for a couple years and only working on a few limited projects. The time is right, the stars are aligned, and now, together, we can make history. Tony’s announcing abilities are legendary. He will allow me to focus on the production aspects of each show and making sure everything is moving in the direction it’s supposed to be. It also brings a faithful audience that Tony has had for many, many years. He is loved in the BJJ Community, and July 15th, we all get to see that love surface once again.”
Tony is excited to contribute to the growth of the Jiu-Jitsu movement: “Those that know me know that I love Jiu-Jitsu. I am friends or at least friendly with many of the best players. I am looking forward to getting to know all the new players making their mark in the game.”
Five Super League – The Lightweights will gather some of the best competitors in the world under 155lb. The lineup includes Gianni Grippo, Leonardo Saggioro, Samuel Braga, Lucas Pinheiro, Brandon Walenski, Jamil Hill, Sinistro Iturralde, Wallace Santos. Shawn Fowler talks about what else is in the future for the organization: “We are scheduled to announce the Five Grappling California Open later this year and our entire 2018 tournament schedule is coming up. The Five Super League is scheduled for one more show this year on October 14th and that will have a Men’s 8 Man Bracket and a Woman’s 4 Man Bracket. SUBCON will remain our affordable tournament only charging $50 for one event, or $75 for an additional division with various locations throughout the year. Lastly, our new website design is currently under redesign and should be launched shortly.”
