Estevan Martinez wins Miami Open, competes in main event of F2W 195 in same day

Estevan Martinez is about that life, as they say.

On Saturday morning, Martinez competed in and won the adult black belt roosterweight division at the IBJJF Miami Open. Not taking a moment to savor his victory, Martinez then hopped on a plane and flew across two time zones to compete in the main event of Fight To Win 195 in Albuquerque, NM.

Martinez would come up short in his Fight To Win match against fellow elite black belt Lucas Pinheiro, dropping a hard-fought decision.

Fight To Win CEO Seth Daniels caught up with Martinez to briefly talk about his epic day of competing in two different parts of the country.

Known for competing in the absolute division, Martinez has earned the nickname “Giant Slayer.” He is one of jiu-jitsu’s most active black belt competitors, and one of its most entertaining. Martinez is a specialist in high-paced, high-flying matches in which he can showcase his trademark back-flip guard pass.

Martinez had a breakout year in 2021, winning no-gi Pans and Worlds. He recently challenged Mikey Musumeci for his Who’s Number One bantamweight title, losing an entertaining decision.
