Brianna Ste-Marie wins nearly 3-hour submission-only match

Any more, most “submission-only” matches aren’t truly submission-only. Most contemporary submission-only matches come with a time limit and judges to score the match in the event a submission doesn’t happen. Over the weekend recent ADCC Trials winner and combat jiu-jitsu champion Brianna Ste-Marie competed in a true submission-only match.

After two hours and 45 minutes of grappling, Ste-Marie secured a match-ending triangle choke against Hannah Sharp. The match took place at the Washington Submission Series submission-only event.

Ste-Marie posted about her experience on Instagram.

One of 2021’s breakout competitors, Ste-Marie won the inaugural Medusa CJJ tournament, adding to her CJJ 125-pound world title. She won gold at the 2021 ADCC East Coast Trials, and recently picked up a notable win over Amanda “Tubby” Alequin at Who’s Number One.
