Sitting super-heavyweight world champion Erberth Santos was among the most popular athletes in a Graciemag poll to take part in the heavyweight GP that will run during the IBJJF Pro League on Aug. 26 in Vegas. He had told us that he could not fight, but that has changed.
“Right after I won the Worlds I received many invitations for seminars,” he told us. “My plan was to compete in the tournaments I was already signed up for, follow my schedule and focus on the Euro. However, after Roger Gracie’s exit, I received many messages — even more than before — to take part in the contest. I brought the public’s request to my manager, coaches and team, and we reached the conclusion that I’m in condition to fight this GP also, and be its champion.”
Erberth added: “I want that spot; I am the right person to round out the tourney. I hope the IBJJF will give me the chance to fight for this title. The fans are clamoring a lot. The voice of the people is the voice of God.”
The GP, which pays 40,000 dollars to first place, currently includes Marcus Buchecha, Leandro Lo, André Galvão, João Gabriel Rocha, Mahamed Aly, Ricardo Evangelista and Dimitrius Souza. Who do you think should be the eighth fighter?
