One of the UK’s top grapplers has been awarded his black belt. On Wednesday, Polaris veteran and ADCC British champion Jed Hue was promoted to black belt by fellow top UK grappler Ross Nicholls.
Yesterday was a huge day for me as I was promoted to black belt by my coach and friend @rossnichollsbjj it’s been a very long and crazy journey starting out as a young 16 year old white belt who knew nothing about grappling to now be a 24 year old black belt competing at the highest level. I started back in 2013 because I had the goal of doing MMA but as soon as I started Bjj I soon found out that this is what I love and wanted to do for the rest of my life. In 2016 at 19 years old I was badly injured at the europeans and had to take off nearly 2 and a half years and those years were very difficult for me I went from training jiujitsu everyday to doing absolutely nothing with my life I didn’t know what to do and I nearly never came back to jiujitsu but I’m so glad I picked myself back up and got my ass back to training! In 2018 I came back to jiujitsu I was super fat and out of shape but I had the determination to better myself and get back on track with my training and now I’ve achieved my black belt 8.5 years after I started training but trust me when I say this is only the start! I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey in any way from giving me any little tips to improve my technique to just being a friend on the mat I truly appreciate all of you there are too many to name but you all know who you are!
Hue is a multiple-time Polaris veteran, was the 2019 ADCC British champion, and has competed in and won numerous no-gi superfights. He most recently competed at Polaris Squads: Team UK/Ireland vs. Team USA, putting on incredibly entertaining performances against the likes of Hunter Colvin and Roberto Jimenez.
