Two jiu-jitsu stars will be getting a well-earned flyweight title fight in November for Invicta.
After another big win that improved her professional MMA record to 6-1, EBI 12 champion Erin Blanchfield will be going up against Combat Jiu-Jitsu Worlds veteran Pearl Gonzalez, who made waves at the end of last year when she submitted Lilian Borja with a brutal armbar. Their fight will be the main event of the evening.
Blanchfield shared news of the matchup on Instagram, and MMA Fighting also confirmed it. The opportunity arose when now-former Invicta flyweight champion Vanessa Porto signed with Bellator, leaving the title vacant.
Gonzalez, a UFC veteran, currently boasts an impressive 10-5 professional record. Though her last fight ended in a decision loss to Miranda Maverick, she picked up a win against Brogan Walker-Sanchez beforehand. Blanchfield, who will be the youngest Invicta champion in history if she wins this bout, is currently on a three-fight winning streak, having defeated Walker-Sanchez in July. She and Gonzalez have fought on the same card multiple times before, but this will be their first time fighting each other.
Invicta FC 43 will take place in Kansas City on Friday, November 20.
