We give professional fighters a lot of crap for getting into altercations with fans, but real talk…like, have you met fight fans? Does anyone deserve to have their phones broken or taste pavement more than overzealous fight fans? Apparently, yes: Drunk fight fans.
Ben Askren got a reminder of just how miserable success can be on July 6 just hours before his performance at UFC 239 when he was approached in the lobby of the arena by this guy, who has so far only been identified as a “drunk fan.” Watch and cringe as the allegedly intoxicated enthusiast speakyells incoherently into Askren’s face, tries to tie up with him, blocks his ability to get through the space, and tries to get a grappling lesson for free:
Imagine you had to fight in front of close to a million people in a few hours, had a sea of haters on Twitter lobbying for your demise, and then had to deal with some day drunk looking to collar tie while you’re trying to get from the ring to the bathroom. Wouldn’t at least a single leg feel valid?
Anyway, Askren was on his best behavior and fights Jorge Masvidal later tonight in Vegas.
