Lebanon hosted Asia’s regional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, and Syria ended up sweeping the entire event. Syria took home a whopping 18 medals for various events. The total of their medals consisted of four gold medals, eight bronze medals and six silver medals in the competitions. Syria clearly has a wealth of talent in the sport of Jiu-Jitsu. Syrians played against seven different teams. The females from Syria were pitted against the females from Lebanon and Iraq. The Syrian men engaged in competitions against males from Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Kuwait and Iran.
The Syrian contenders displayed a great deal of strength and agility. Jiu-Jitsu is a sport that is part martial arts and part combat. Many people use Jiu-Jitsu so that they can defend themselves against criminals. The sport involves grappling and a combination of strategic ground fighting techniques. The goal of the sport is for one contender to get the other contender on the ground. Once that person is on the ground, he or she will want to keep that person there. The Syrian team showed true sportsmanship and skill when they took home almost 20 awards for overtaking their opponents in the sport.
