At UFC 288, Kron Gracie put on a lackluster performance that resulted in his unanimous defeat by Charles Jourdain. Following the bout, Gracie claimed that he refrained from throwing punches due to bad advice and an attempt to please the Jiu-Jitsu community.
Demian Maia, a member of Jiu-Jitsu hall of fame, recently revealed that he participated in Kron’s training camp and provided tips and analyzes of Jourdain’s fights to Kron’s coach. Maia initially declined to stay in Kron’s corner for the fight, but ultimately accepted when Kron’s coach and father, Rickson Gracie, asked him to do so:
“On the Saturday before the fight, Dentinho called me and asked if I could stay in Kron’s corner, I said it would be difficult, because it was very short notice, but he insisted and even made me ask Rickson (Gracie, Kron’s father) what he thought. He replied: ‘What you’ve done is great, but whatever you can do will be very good’. Because of that conversation with Rickson, who is a guy I respect a lot, my childhood idol, then I accepted and went to fight”, declared Demian.
