Two-time ADCC champion Dean Lister has pulled out of EBI 6 due to illness. Lister’s withdrawal from the event is the latest in a string of high-profile competitors withdrawing from the event. World champions Andre Galvao, Cyborg Abreu, and Vinny Magalhaes all initially entered the event, but withdrew due to injury and training reasons. Lister, who owns and trains out of Victory MMA, in San Diego, CA, was considered one of the favorites to win EBI 6 and the grand prize of up to $50,000.
Eddie Bravo and his team have recruited Marcello Bergo to replace Lister in the event. Bergo, a member of Brazilian Top Team, is a highly decorated grappler and MMA fighter with a black belt under former UFC champion Murilo Bustamante. While fighting MMA as a middleweight, Bergo amassed an impressive 8-1-2 professional MMA and has won numerous grappling and BJJ tournaments. According to BJJheroes.com, the 35-year old Bergo has captured the following titles
- World Grappling Champion
- US Open Champion
- Brazilian National Champion
- Pan American Champion (Master)
EBI 6 takes place on Sunday, April 24th at 5 PM PST from the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, CA. The event will be live-streamed on UFC Fight Pass.
