The date for Jose Aldo’s first title defense against Urijah Faber has finally been released. The current holder of the WEC featherweight belt and the former champion will face off on April 24 at WEC 48, to take place in Sacramento, California.
The date was only announced now, but confirmation of the bout was made while still in the cage, after Faber’s triumph over Raphael Assunção on January 11 of last year.
“I respect you, Faber. But nobody’s going to take my belt from me,” said Aldo.
“To me, that’s my belt,” said the “California Kid” in response.
The event will mark the organization’s maiden pay-per-view broadcast. Thus, besides Aldo and Faber, the show will feature another title defense between lightweight champion Benson Henderson and Donald Cerrone, as well as what could be a featherweight contender-deciding bout between Aldo’s predecessor Mike Brown and former UFC fighter Manny Gamburyan.
