Mikey Musumeci defended his ONE Championship flyweight submission grappling world title against Gantumur Bayanduuren via unanimous decision… But only because his opponent wouldn’t tap to a vicious Leg Lock.
Namely, Musumeci kept applying the submission as much as he could, but Bayanduuren wouldn’t budge. Nevertheless, he suffered a number of injuries as a result.
Now, Mikey is facing some criticism from the fans because he kept cranking the submission, despite his opponent’s leg popping a number of times.
Danielle Kelly has stepped up to defend his decision, saying that people who criticize him aren’t real competitors:
Everyone out there complaining, I don’t think they’re real competitors and they’re probably hypocritical because if they were in a big stage like that and the other person didn’t want to tap, you want to make sure you’re submitting your opponent to get your prize or win that match.
Honestly, I haven’t seen anyone criticize Mikey for doing it, so I don’t know. But anyone giving him issues about it are just not real competitors.
