Dana White On Georges St-Pierre’s Next Opponent: ‘It’s Going To Be Whittaker’

It was only last night that Georges St-Pierre not only made his return to the octagon after a four-year hiatus, but became the newly-crowned UFC Middleweight Champion after defeating former champ Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC 217.

But that hasn’t stopped Dana White and the UFC brass from scheduling GSP’s next fight.

“It’s going to be Whittaker,” the UFC President told reporters at the post-fight press conference. He was of course referring to Interim Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker. “I don’t even know what’s going on with GSP. He was transported to the hospital, so he’s got to get stitches on his nose. If he doesn’t take Bisping down and keeps this fight standing, he comes out of that fight with almost no damage. Bisping did some serious work from his back and split his nose open and had him bleeding all over his face. He took some big shots from the top position and if he didn’t do that he probably would’ve come out unscratched. So yeah, he’s got to go to the hospital right now. We’ll see how he is and what the status is with him.”

Whittaker is riding an eight-fight win streak in the UFC, and four of those wins have come by way of finish.

Yet as impressive as Robert Whittaker is, can he hold his own against a man who is widely considered one of the greatest fighters in MMA history, and who came off of a four-year vacation to submit the champion of the weight class above his?

MMA fans will have to wait and see.
