Dan Bilzerian – the Instagram socialite, hedonist, and poker player who is widely known as “Instagram’s Playboy King” – wants to try his hand at MMA.
Bilzerian sat down with the guys at MMA Junkie to not only talk about his love for mixed martial arts, but his desire to compete in it.
I’ve been watching MMA since UFC 1, so it always fascinated me, especially in the day when it was, you know, you got the guy who’s trained in Boston bar brawling and wrestler brawling and back then everybody had one style. So it was real interesting I mean because, as a kid, you would be like ‘Who would win, Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee?’ Ninos always like the taedwondo or whatever the style was, but nobody really knew until UFC came around, and that was kind of cool because you really got to see what styles were the superior ones you want to compete.
Bilzerian is known for his hard-partying lifestyle. His drug abuse is notorious, and according to Wikipedia caused him to suffer three heart attacks before his 32nd birthday.
But Instagram’s Playboy King knows just how hard it is to make it as a fighter in the world’s toughest sport; and if he does do it, he is not going to “half-***” it.
I’d like to do a fight. I need to do a real camp. I don’t want to go in there and ******* half-*** it. I’ve never really half-assed anything in my life. So if I’m going to do it, I’m really going to do it. Right now, I’ve actually been taking a little bit of time off from partying and the crazy ****, so it wouldn’t be bad. I have wanted to do it. I’m going to be 37 this year, so I better do it pretty ******* soon if I want to do it.
Bilzerian also has nothing but respect for the people fighting in the sport today.
It’s tough nowadays because these ******* kids are training from the time they are six or eight. So it’s like ****, man, by the time they get in there they’re so well-versed. It’s funny because if you look at the MMA fighters now, it’s like ******* nobody would have crushed the big guys back in the day because they’re just so well-rounded, so well-trained and the sport’s evolved and come so far.
What say you, Jiu-Jitsu Times readers? Is Bilzerian serious? And if he is, does the 36-year-old socialite with no MMA experience stand a chance in the cage?
