It’s only been a week since Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone cooly defeated Al Iaquinta in the ring, and the lightweight is already slated for a return next month. Cerrone will face fellow fan favorite Tony Ferguson on June 8th, ESPN reports. Ferguson was last seen in October against Anthony Pettis.
Cerrone had originally called out Conor McGregor last week, going so far as to have his camp contact McGregor’s to try to set terms for a fight. When that match seemed to be stalled out, Team Cowboy moved on to Ferguson, who like Cerrone is making a run at the belt.
Ferguson is currently on an 11 fight winning streak. Cerrone is ranked 8th in the division after last week’s victory, and is the winningest fighter in the UFC with 23 Ws to his name.
