Conor McGregor hasn’t competed since July 2021, following his UFC 264 bout against Dustin Poirier – when he suffered an opening-round left tibia and fibula fracture.
Now, however, it seems that the Irish native is ready for almost an immediate return… But USADA isn’t having it.
Namely, McGregor recently claimed that all he needed for an octagon return was two negative tests submitted to USADA, which would then grant him the eligibility to return to competition.
However, USADA then responded by claiming that it would also require from McGregor – just like it would for any other returning athlete – to return to the pool for a period of six months before he’d be eligible to fight in the UFC:
We do not have a meeting set with Conor and, as of today, we have not received notice of his coming out of retirement to compete.
While the rules permit the UFC to make an exception to the six-month rule in exceptional circumstances, when the strict application of the rule would be manifestly unfair to the athlete, our position, which we have made clear, is that Conor should be in the testing pool for the full six-month period.
The Irishman then lashed out at the organization. He posted a series of tweets (since deleted) on his Twitter account:
This is my issue. I’ve not lied once. Nor have I tested positive. Ever. I have over 70 clean tests under this program, yet they are consistently coming out after I speak in a manner that makes it seem I am lying. It’s ridiculous.
F*ck used [USADA]. You are in The Bin.Over 70 clean tests. Never violated once. I will not be scapegoated by this garbage organization.
You are not the be all end all in this equation USADA.
Conor McGregor’s frustration with USADA continues ahead of his attempted UFC comeback.
