Black belt Christian Uflacker is now 5-0 in his MMA career. His last challenge took place this Saturday, Dec. 14, in Hammond, Ind. Uflacker, where he faced Cliff Wright in the Bellator welterweight division.
The victory came as a unanimous decision after three rounds, but the Brazilian native was not pleased with that, and said he had some problems before the bout.
“The main difficulties in this fight were getting through a quick training camp because I had one month’s notice when I signed on with Bellator,” he told GRACIEMAG.com. “Unfortunately, I had health issues on the week of the fight. This is any fighter’s worst nightmare, considering the calorie depletion and dehydration that is right around the corner. This definitely affected my performance, but I did the best I could in my situation and was able to use my Jiu-Jitsu skills to gain position and control the fight despite his size advantage over me. The win is always what a fighter looks for but I wish I could have finished him.”
Uflacker now looks into the future and already plans his comeback to the cage.
“That was my first fight of a three-fight deal with Bellator,” he said. “Now my focus is to go back to my routine at my gym and rest my body. I hope to get back in the cage by spring or summer of 2013. I would like to thank Bellator for the opportunity, as well as my trainers, students and sponsors for all of their support: Subculture Kimonos, Wild Monk La Grange, HMD Trucking, Acai Fresh Bowls, Martial Arts Tees, and Sniper Gear.”
Besides being a successful MMA fighter, Christian is also the leader of GMA member Uflacker Academy, in Chicago, Ill. For more info, go to bjjsouthside.com.
