After easily dispatching of his opponent Li Jingliang in his last UFC fight, Khamzat Chimaev made a quick return to action and is filling up his schedule with various combat activities.
After taking time away to recover from a rough bout with COVID19 following his busy debut year in 2020 that saw him fight and win dominantly three times in just over two months, Chimaev faced Swedish grappler and UFC fighter, Jack Hermansson in a freestyle wrestling match at Bulldog Fight Night 9. Chimaev easily defeated Hermansson in a impressive performance.
Chimaev has a perfect 10-0 record in MMA. Six of those wins came via knockout and three came by way of submission.
He is now facing UFC title challenger and BJJ world champion Gilbert Burns in his next UFC fight.
Chimaev revealed in arecent interview that his instructor Alan ‘Finfou’ Nascimento would promote him to purple belt if he was able to submit Burns during the fight. Nascimento has already defeated Burns 3 or 4 times in BJJ competition according to Chimaev.
This seems a tall task for Chimaev but in MMA, with strikes, everything is possible.
Chimaev, a lifetime wrestler, recently started to train BJJ in the Gi a few years ago at Allstars Training Center in Stockholm, Sweden. Last year, his BJJ instructor Alan “Finfou” Nascimento, a multiple-time BJJ world champion, felt it was time for Chimaev to be awarded his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu:
