The late Master Helio Gracie is half of the reason Brazilian jiu-jitsu is with us. In fact, not only did he help create the Gracie art, but his sons helped it evolve into the powerful fighting style that it is today.
In this black and white video, Master Helio demonstrates various self-defense throws. Gracie jiu-jitsu is both a sport in its own right and a frequently used art in mixed martial arts. However, it is important to realize that the art was originally created for self-defense purposes.
This video reminds us of that…as well as the fact that, while over 70% of fights end up on the ground, they all start from the feet.
