The uproar following the suspension of Nick Diaz is showing no sign of abating. Presently, there is a petition for the White House, which is set to reach 100,000 signatures, and more athletes are voicing their discontent with the ruling. Cesar Gracie, Diaz’s trainer, recently said that his charge will probably compete in jiu jitsu, while his attorneys launch an appeal. Jiu jitsu was the fighting art that Diaz originally trained in, so this represents a return to his roots. Gracie went on to say that he thought the suspension would be overturned.
Cesar Gracie told MMAJunkie:
“He loves training jiu-jitsu. That’s just where he came from, and he likes to train with the gi on. I see him getting back to his roots and having fun.”
“One good thing is, a few weeks ago, he sent me pictures of him competing in triathlons, and he hadn’t done that in a long time. That’s the old Nick that I knew, the guy that used to do triathlons, do gi training, and I think that’s where his roots are.”
