Reactions have continued to trail the now famous Metamoris organized by Ralek Gracie. Caio Terra has just added his voice to the controversy. In an Instagram post online, Caio Terra came across as a reasonable and objective person. Terra conceded that Metamoris was supposed to pay the fighters who participated in the event. Terra also pointed out that the Metamoris organization had peculiar problems at the time of that event and this is why the athletes were not paid.
Caio Terra made it clear that the right approach is not to find fault and play the blame game. He recommended a peaceful resolution of the problem in the interest of Jiu-jitsu.
Caio Terra’s Post:
“On October 14th 2012, Jeff Glover and I were the first fight of a new promotion. What they were trying to do was bring Jiu Jitsu main stream. They would accomplish this by getting the best athletes in our sport, pay them so they could train, rent an amazing venue and run it like a professional event. The result was an amazing show.
Recently I was asked to weigh in on my thoughts on Metamoris and all that’s happened since that night in October. Everyone in this world makes choices and all those choices have very real consequences. Metamoris over extended, didn’t pay the athletes for metamoris 6, continued to bill people after they tried to cancel and overall made a lot of bad choices that has led to where we are now. They are taking a lot of hate right now and rightfully so. When you do things wrong people are going to be upset. This doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have a chance to make things right, especially for all they’ve done.”
I am thankful for what Ralek did accomplish. Now there are many tournaments that pay athletes to compete. This is a shift started in large part by metamoris. I am also very grateful that they helped spread the art of Jiu Jitsu. At Metamoris 5 I was talking to an audience member and I asked where does he train? He said he didn’t, he just loves the show and has been to every one. For anyone that has ever attended, the events are amazing. Lets not forget we also got to see Roger vs Buchecha, and Royler vs Eddie!! I hope they fix their problems because I believe in Ralek. He had a dream and went for it, made some mistakes, as we all do. It’s time to fix those now and move forward. I don’t know the fate of the company but I do hope for the sake of the martial art we love, that there is a Metamoris 7.
